Most states in the country are members of the Common Core Standards Initiative, with nearly as many having formally adopted its standards for school curricula. The aim of the CCS initiative is to outline very clear standards for K-12 student success and what they are expected to learn in school. The Common Core Standards currently apply to English language arts and mathematics, and the states aim to enact the complete initiative by the year 2015.
