    Figure 19

No other standards in the TEKS are more tightly linked to college and career readiness from grades Kindergarten to English 4 than the standards in Figure 19. When students read, regardless of the genre or type of text, they process through Figure 19 skills as they comprehend and analyze the text. This highly effective training strengthens teachers’ understandings of Figure 19 and provides strategies to help students develop the metacognitive skills necessary to interpret meaning and understand the author’s purpose.

    Key Learnings:

  • Understand Figure 19 and why it is important
  • Identify specific skills in Figure 19 and how are they assessed on STAAR
  • Target the most effective strategies to teach Figure 19 skills

  • Navigating the New Math TEKS

Learn how to navigate the changes in the new Math TEKS for greater classroom success. The new Math TEKS contain greater specificity, which means teachers must know how to unpack each of the TEKS and identify its cognitive complexity. In this unique training, we will explore in detail the new Personal Financial Literacy Standards, K-8th Mathematical Process Standards, and the changes in K-8th mathematical fluency timelines. We will also explain how using the Texas Response to Curriculum Focal Points document can help teachers plan units and design lessons more effectively.

    Key Learnings:

  • Establish the expectations for implementing the new Texas Math TEKS
  • Identify the changes in the new Math TEKS
  • Discover the essentials for unit design and lesson planning using the new Math TEKS
  •

    Formative Assessment

A Focus on Student Learning Understand the importance of creating a balanced classroom assessment approach by using formative assessments. Learn how both teachers and students use feedback to help clarify misconceptions and refine skills during the learning process.

Prevent academic failure through early intervention, frequent progress monitoring, and increasingly intensive research-based instructional interventions for students in general education classrooms who continue to exhibit difficulty in learning.

Participants will learn strategies and techniques for responding to the needs of learners and how to use the educational resource, Response to Intervention Flip Chart®.

As a result of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the rationale and value of RTI
  • Explain the tiered framework for RTI
  • Understand the use of ongoing student assessment
  • Make informed decisions for delivering high-quality instruction
