I love every part of this tool! The classroom Best Practices Educator Wheel is easy to use when planning lessons and implementing formative assessment. The Learning-Focused side helps you plan meaningful lessons, and the Formative Assessment side helps you plan for formative assessment. This side also takes you through the steps of formative assessment--all the way to teacher feedback and student reflection--the two pieces most often overlooked or skipped.
The Best Practices Wheel is laid out very well, and it's full of informative techniques and strategies. I like the way everything is categorized. The product is brightly colored, which is appealing. I like that it has a wide variety of questions and learning techniques for students and teachers.
The teacher feedback and student reflection topics on the Formative Assessment side helped me move toward true formative assessment which drives instruction. The probing questions on the Learning-Focused Instruction side were most helpful when meeting with small groups or individuals as they helped me ask deeper thinking questions about topics at hand. I used the student self-assessment topic to hold students accountable for their learning.
I would recommend this tool to any teacher who wants to take learning to the next level through ongoing formative assessment. It will also help develop our 21st century students into thoughtful citizens of tomorrow.
